How do I move my existing account to DowntownHost?

  Print

Moving an existing website to Downtown Host is easy. To transfer an existing account, please start by ordering a hosting account. After you receive the welcome email, contact our support team. A representative will explain the procedure and will assist you with the transfer.

Please let us know if your old host is using cPanel. If that is so and the cPanel is still active in your old account, moving will be easier and will take less time to complete.

If your provider is not using the cPanel, you will need to do the following:

1. Create a backup of your site on the current hosting server and download it to your local PC.

2. If you have any MySQL/PostgreSQL databases, and the backup facility does not archive them, create a dump of those and download them as well.

3. Upload the backup file(s) to your Downtown Host account and unpack them.

4. Import the database dumps to newly created databases. This is easily done with phpMyAdmin. Please note that imported file size cannot exceed 50 Megabytes.

After the file transfer is complete you will be able to change the DNS settings of your domain name so that it points to your Downtown Host account. The correct DNS settings for each of your accounts can be found in the Support section. Please note that a DNS change will be as effective as a domain transfer, and in both cases you will experience no downtime.

If you run into any problems, our support team is ready to assist you 24/7. In case the transfer is handled by our support team, it may take up to 12 hours for the procedure to complete.
